Why is it that when mom falls sick, more often than not, she has to keep going? Life doesn’t seem to stop just because mom caught a cold. Does that sound familiar? It does over here. Kids, carpool, sports, dinner; they all must go on even if this mom’s nose is running and all she wants to do is crawl into bed.

Since there’s really no Day Off (or anyone to call in a Sick Day, for that matter), this busy mom doesn’t have the time to come down with a cold! Really, it’s such a nuisance to wake up with a sore throat or a case of the sneezes, don’t you think?

So that’s why, as soon as the weather starts to change, I keep those vital cold and flu products on hand. Sort of like my own homemade cold and flu wellness kit so that this mom – and her crazy active family – can all stay healthy this busy time of year!

Here’s how to make your own DIY cold and flu kit + a 10-minute DIY hot pad…

Start by cutting two strips of fabric the same size. I used my pinking sheers so I didn’t have to worry about fraying seams. Pin the wrong sides together, only THREE sides though.

Sew THREE of the sides together, leaving the fourth end open.

Pour the rice in. Pin and sew close.

Heat for a few seconds for soothing relief. (Or freeze, depending on your needs.)
