My mother always wanted me to be an engineer. I’m not sure the arts-n-crafts lovin’ girl, who spent more time designing the cover page of her school report, would have made made the best engineer! But, she may get her wish with my kids, who are each imaginative and creative pint-sized builders in their own ways. One has even gone so far as to call himself a “master builder”!
So while my husband and I may have grown up to be the furthest things from engineers ourselves, we have three young “roommates” who could spend all day building (and re-building) themed play sets as they role play all sorts of characters and situations. And fun building sets, like PLAYMOBIL Take Along Police Station, encourages my kids to act out all sorts of real and imaginative scenarios!
And what better place to encourage exploration and imaginative thinking than in a dedicated kids-only space …instead of mom and dad side stepping a minefield of toys all over the house?! See how we created a kids toy space in our home that keeps all the wild, creative, messy play in a contained zone.
How to Make a Kid-Friendly Play Zone In Your Home
In the near decade since we brought our first little “roommate” home, we’ve had all types of dedicated play rooms. In one home, what should’ve been the dining room was instead covered in foam floor mats and plastic kitchen sets. In another, a very large room was half preschooler’s bedroom-half toyroom.
And now, finally, after many interesting interations, we have a dedicated play room. Of course, this means no guest can spend the night because there’s no room for them, but at least our children have a room for all of their stuff!
How to Give Your Kids a Super Fun Play Zone at Home
Creating a dedicated, colorful and vibrant play zone in your home is easy and fun, even if you are short on space. A corner of a room can become a zone for kids to play as can an unused room in your home.
Ideas for Creating a Play Room:
Incorporate a wow factor with bright wall colors, a themed mural, removable decals, a colorful floor rug or a large graphic saying on the wall like “Let’s Play”.
Give the kids easy access to all their stuff with vertical storage. Cubby systems make displaying toys, games and puzzles easy without having to dig through boxes and bins. It also makes clean up relatively painless as well!
Give your kids a soft place to play with plush floor rugs, bean bags, large floor pillows, or foam floor mats.
Display the kids art masterpieces with a rotating gallery wall. An easy budget-friendly idea includes using small clips and ribbon to hang artwork. Voila, art gallery!
Don’t forget the ceiling! Keep the fun going upwards by suspending a kite, or hanging an unusual mobile or colorful paper lanterns to bring the eye upwards.
how to create a “let’s play” kids zone in your home
Our guest room turned toy room is by far the most fun room in our house! There are endless options for creating a super fun play zone for your kids.
And endless are the possibilities for imaginative play when playing with PLAYMOBIL toys. The PLAYMOBIL Take Along Police Station allows my kids to stretch their imaginations in only that special way we can in childhood by role playing around iconic figures, like everyday police heroes as they capture the ‘bad guys’! It’s a great way for kids to not only spend hours of fun play time but enables them to further develop their cognitive skills.
My favorite aspect of the PLAYMOBIL Take Along Police Station is not only the strong attention to details like the miniature jail keys to the police station computer but once done playing, all pieces and parts of the PLAYMOBIL Police Station can be stored within the fold-up police station carrying case. Fun for the kids; easy cleanup for mom!

Cute! When my son was a toddler we used to have a playroom. Then my daughter was born and not only we needed to convert the room for her but we also noticed the kids tended to move their toys to wherever we were – mostly the kitchen and the living room – which made the play room kind of useless. But the house was a lot clutter free when we did have the playroom that I kind of miss it sometimes.

Great play room! We had one very similar when my kids were younger. I loved hanging their artwork up. Thanks for sharing on To Grandma’s House We Go!
